Adult Music Ministries

There are several and varied opportunities to express yourself musically at CUMC.  The excellent Chancel Choir and Bell Choir  are eager  to offer a warm hand of welcome to any and all who would join them.  Musical quality and meaningful fellowship are equal concerns in this CUMC ministry. For information call the church office at (925) 685-5260.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir meets for practice on Thursdays at 7:30 pm in Sherrill Hall. They are under the direction of Doug Emigh and make beautiful music at the 10:30 am service on Sunday mornings.

Choir's Carnegie Hall Trip

Our chancel choir, under the direction of Doug Emigh, was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007.
Members of the CUMC choir and family members flew out to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall. They joined  with five other choirs-three from Nevada; McQueen High School-Reno, North Valley Cadenza Chorus-Reno, University of Nevada Reno, Choral Union-Reno and the First Congregational Church Chancel Choir- and Emmanuel Lutheran Choirs, Tacoma, WA. and Eugene, Oregon. The total participants were 170. Dr Duane Karna, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at the University of Nevada, Reno, conducted the chorus along with the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Soprano, Evelyn Polluck, was the soloist. They performed Mozart Regina Coeli 108 (written in 1771) and Regina Coeli  127 ( which Mozart is thought to have composed in 1772) in the original Latin. The choir members were 1/3 of the afternoon's entertainment. Other choirs performed Schubert's Mass No 2 in G major,D,187, Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and the World Premiere of Forrest's Arise, Shine. (info provided by Mary Spryer).
